Unlike most X Games sports, snocross is a team endeavor. Before a racer can grab the glory, months of preparation are necessary. EXPN.com asked the key players—two members of eight-time Winter X medalist Blair Morgan’s crew, and Levi LaVallee, last year’s silver medalist in Aspen, to explain in their own words how the plan comes together.

The WPSA 2006 – 2007 snow cross race season was upon us.

The BLAIR MORGAN RACE TEAM has been hard at work for months in preparation. The snow guns were pumping out tons of snow to form the teams test track, and our newly purchased Bombardier BR 275 groomer was busy churning the piles of snow into a gnarly test track.

BMRT arrived in Duluth with the goal of getting through the rough and tumble weekend with everyone healthy, making all the finals and getting riders qualified for ESPN’s winter X-Games in Aspen Colorado at the end of January.

Hillclimber Vincent Clark’s talent was evident at the first Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association (RMSHA) event this season in Preston, Idaho.

Clark runs two stock and two mod classes on the hillclimb series with his arsenal of Ski-Doo equipment. At Preston, he burned down his open mod sled. Fellow Ski-Doo driver Rusty Johnson offered to loan a machine for the class. The borrowed sled was Johnson’s 800 improved stocker, which Clark used to qualify for the finals. When Clark should have been out-gunned in the Open Mod class, he shot up the competition. Johnson, also racing in the Open Mod class on his own mod machine, was on the list of drivers beat by Clark. Johnson’s response? “Yeah, but that sled is really fast.”

Round 8 of the WPSA tour was held at the home of the Green Bay Packers football club, the legendary Lambeau Field. As one would expect on a football field sized area, the course was short and tight making for plenty of action for the fans to watch.

As usual, Semi-pro stock was up first and all three BMRT riders, Elam, Coonishish and Turcotte made the main. Coonishish emerged from the first corner with the lead, Turcotte in fourth; Elam got pushed wide in the first turn and was near the back of the pack. Turcotte quickly passed his way into second behind his teammate and those two finished in that order. Elam worked hard and passed his way into 5th at race end. Three in the top 5 was a great showing for the young BMRT talent.

Round 7 of the WPSA tour brought the team to Winnipeg, MB, Canada, a “home town race” for the team as their team headquarters is only a few minutes away in Oak Bluff, MB.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball team stadium was the venue for this round and what a great facility. Although the track was small it still took the racers over 30 second to traverse all of the tricky turns and jumps. Spectator viewing was spectacular, and the backdrop of the 40 story office buildings behind the stadium offered a new and unique look to a snowcross event.
