The team is looking forward to this opportunity to showcase its skills in front of the people who work so hard designing and building the great Skidoo product.
First up was Brett Turcotte, the teams semi-pro entrant. Brett qualified for the final through the LCQ and found himself with a back row start for the 15 sled final. The 991 Polaris of Chris Kafka got the holeshot and maintained his lead to the checkers for his second win in as many weeks. Brett worked carefully forward from a miserable start for a 9th place finish, vowing to qualify front row for tomorrows open mod semipro race, avoiding the dusty condition in the back of the field.
Prostock qualifying also took place Saturday, all three BMRT riders qualified well enough for the front row. Alas, after qualifying, Allard was penalized for a driver infraction which sent him to the LCQ. The last chance qualifier race takes the top 5 finishers into the final on the backrow, Allard failed to make the top five and was set to the sidelines for the final on Sunday.
The first race up on Sunday was the Prostock final. On green, team riders Morgan and Hayden rounded the first turn midpack heading down the long bump filled straight away. Morgan eager to get to the front and clear vision right away blitzed through the whoops like no other, but his attempt to double into the left hander in front of leader TJ Gulla failed when he clipped a bump and came off. The option of quickly remounting and taking up the chase vanished as 3 sleds piled into Morgan’s downed REV damaging it to the point it could no longer be driven. TJ Gulla maintained his lead to the checkers while Iain Hayden fought battles throughout the 16 lap final, garnering a fourth place finish.
The semi-pro open final went green with BMRT rider Brett Turcotte on the front row having qualifyed #1 sweeping all three of his heat races on the new Rev XP mod sled. Brett rounded the first corner with the lead, a lead he would hold until the finish for his first victory of the year. Andrew Johnstad’s #255 Polaris kept Brett honest throughout the race but this was Brett’s day and he was up for the challenge, Andrew had to settle for second.
Pro Open was up next and all three BMRT riders, Morgan, Hayden and Allard had qualified for the 15 sled final. Not to be out done by his semi-pro teammate Turcotte, Morgan also won all three of his heat races and was the #1 qualifier for the final. On green Ross Martin got the holeshot with Morgan and the rest of the pack on his heels. Martin and Morgan quickly moved away from the rest of the field. Morgan layed back a little to study Ross’s lines for a few laps, then in one short lap, Blair closed the gap, passed Martin and pulled away for a comfortable win. Martin easily finished second ahead of Warnert racing Skidoo rider Mathieu Morin.
The much anticipated debut of Skidoo’s new Rev XP race sled was a great success for the Valcourt company having won both the semi-pro and pro mod classes with BMRT riders Turcotte and Morgan at the helm.
The team now heads off for Eagle River WI, and round 6 on a definite high note.
Of note, on Thursday February 22nd, Blair Morgan will be presenting the Hall of Fame in St Germain WI, his ’06 Winter X-Games Gold Medal winning Rev to be put on display beside his Winter X-Games Gold Medal winning Arctic Cat from 2001.
