Round 8 of the WPSA tour was held at the home of the Green Bay Packers football club, the legendary Lambeau Field. As one would expect on a football field sized area, the course was short and tight making for plenty of action for the fans to watch.
As usual, Semi-pro stock was up first and all three BMRT riders, Elam, Coonishish and Turcotte made the main. Coonishish emerged from the first corner with the lead, Turcotte in fourth; Elam got pushed wide in the first turn and was near the back of the pack. Turcotte quickly passed his way into second behind his teammate and those two finished in that order. Elam worked hard and passed his way into 5th at race end. Three in the top 5 was a great showing for the young BMRT talent.
Pro Stock got underway with only Morgan and Allard making the event….a crash in the LCQ sidelining Taylor. Allard and Morgan got mid pack starts and started a march toward the front. By mid race Allard had worked up to third and was working on relieving Shaun Crapo of his second place spot, Morgan was in fifth. Near the end of the race disaster struck Allard when a lapped rider went down right in front of Dave. With no time to react, Dave got tangled long enough with the downed sled to slide him back to 7th place. At race end, Morgan moved up to fourth. Robbie Malinowski won the race on his Olah Racing Arctic Cat.
Semi-pro open roared of the line next, team riders Turcotte and Coonishish in the front row, Willie Elam didn’t make the field. Turcotte had swept his qualifiers and had big hopes for this final which didn’t last long for the young BC rider. A first turn crash ended the evening for Brett seconds after it had started. Katejun meanwhile was running in fourth, but didn’t seem to have his usual zip, and started losing positions. It turned out that Katejun was feeling sick from the fumes; he didn’t quit however and started to feel better after mid way in the race. He worked hard and passed from 8th up to 4th in the last 3 laps and missed the podium by inches! Great effort Katejun!
Pro Open was the last race of the evening and all three BMRT pros were in the final. On green, Allard came out of the first corner the best of the three and immediately started off after race leader Levi Lavallee. By mid race Dave was in second and right on Levi, Taylor around 5th and Morgan 6th. Allard lost a bit of ground to Levi while passing some lappers, but once clear made the lost time up in one lap and looked to be on his way to his first Pro WPSA victory,,,,,but….. He came off in the whoops section and ended up 6th, oh so close. Dave’s speed and hard work will win him a race soon! Levi cruised in for his second win of the season ahead of Malinowski and Taylor. Morgan finished 5th but was later DQ’D for a pass in a yellow flag caution area.
The team loaded up and is headed for West Yellowstone MT for round 9.
